We have been drinking hot chocolate here on earth for thousands of years. The very first chocolate drink was probably made by the Maya around 2000 years ago. The drink ended up in Europe from Mexico in the 16th century, where it was even used as a medicine against liver and stomach diseases until the 19th century.

Now I definitely agree that hot chocolate makes you feel better. At least you'll get warmer. Especially if you make it completely to your own taste. For a cold or rainy day that calls for a hot cup of coffee, I have collected 5 recipes for you for inspiration that you can of course also adjust to your own taste!

All recipes are for 2 mugs.

The basic recipe

Ingredients:

• 2 tablespoons of sugar

• 4 tablespoons of cocoa

• 500 ml of milk

• Extra: freshly whipped cream

This is how you make it:

Mix the sugar and cocoa in a cup with a small splash of water. Stir until an even dark brown paste. Bring milk to the boil and pour into the cocoa mixture while stirring. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.

Top your hot chocolate with chunky whipped cream.

Spicy chocolate milk

Ingredients:

• 2 tablespoons of sugar

• 4 tablespoons of cocoa

• 1 pinch of cinnamon powder

• 1 pinch of ground cardamom

• 500 ml of milk

• Extra: freshly whipped cream

This is how you make it:

Mix the sugar, cocoa, cinnamon and ground cardamom in a cup together with a small splash of water. Stir until an even dark brown paste. Bring milk to the boil and pour into the cocoa mixture while stirring. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.

Beat the whipped cream with a pinch of cardamom and top off your hot chocolate with it.

Crazy chocolate milk

Ingredients:

• 4 tablespoons of cocoa

• 2 tablespoons of mashed mice

• 2 teaspoons of cinnamon powder

• 500 ml of milk

• 2 tablespoons mini marshmallows

This is how you make it:

Mix the cocoa, mashed mice and cinnamon in a cup together with a small splash of water. Stir until an even dark brown paste. Bring milk to the boil and pour into the cocoa mixture while stirring. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.

Top off your chocolate milk with a spoonful of mini marshmallows

Red velvet chocolate milk

Ingredients:

• 100 grams ruby ​​chocolate

• 2 tablespoons of cocoa

• 2 tablespoons of vanilla sugar

• 500 ml of milk

• Extra: freshly whipped cream & sprinkles

This is how you make it:

Put the ruby ​​chocolate, cocoa, vanilla sugar and milk in a pan. Bring to the boil while stirring and pour into the mugs. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.

Beat the whipped cream stiff and put a big dollop on your hot chocolate. Sprinkle some sprinkles on top to complete your red velvet chocolate milk

Cocoa milk with rum

Ingredients:

• 2 tablespoons of sugar

• 4 tablespoons of cocoa

• 500 ml of milk

• 2 shots of dark rum

• Extra: freshly whipped cream & almond shavings

This is how you make it:

Mix the sugar and cocoa in a cup with a small splash of water. Stir until an even dark brown paste. Bring milk to the boil and pour into the cocoa mixture while stirring. Now add a dash of dark rum to the chocolate milk. If you like it sweet, add extra sugar to taste.

Beat the whipped cream stiff and put a big dollop on your hot chocolate. Sprinkle some almond shavings on top to complete your hot chocolate.
